Derelict Pier Ruins in Davie Village Evening Light

by Landon Guevara

Rust-colored iron supports of a crumbling pier dissolve into the churning grey water of the sea. The structure sits within an abandoned ceremonial court near Davie Village, Vancouver, where midsummer greenery creeps over the decaying concrete foundations. Honeyed evening light wraps the horizon, casting long, warm shadows across the jagged metal framework. Dust particles drift in visible shafts of sunlight that pierce through gaps in the rotting wood. The sea laps gently against the base of the iron columns, which are pitted with orange oxidation. Overgrown vines rest on the remaining beams, contrasting the sharp industrial decay with soft organic growth. at the edge is a frayed rope hanging loosely from a broken railing, swaying slightly in the breeze.
