Silhouetted Wooden Pier at Sunset Over Delhi Canal
by Gilbert Kim
Dark timber planks stretch diagonally from the left foreground into a gray mist, forming a stark silhouette against a sky heavy with dramatic, bruised clouds. The late autumn sunset casts a faint orange glow along the horizon, barely illuminating the tops of the clouds while the wooden structure remains in deep shadow. Beside the pier, a canal-front facade rises vertically, its windows dark and unlit, suggesting the transition into evening. The water below reflects the muted sky, creating a smooth, glassy surface that mirrors the leading lines of the pier. The air appears thick with moisture, softening the distant edges of the buildings. A jagged beam of fading light cuts across the cloud layer just above the waterline, defining the boundary between the dark wood and the atmospheric haze. The texture of the weathered planks is visible as rough, linear grooves running parallel to the canal edge.
