Predawn darkness blankets the muddy riverbank where the skeletal remains of a wooden boat rest tilted against the mud. A rhythmic sweep of lighthouse light cuts through the heavy monsoon fog, illuminating splintered planks and waterlogged beams that have surrendered to the river. Steady rain slicks the dark earth, creating shallow pools that mirror the intermittent beam. Converging lines of the eroding bank draw toward the harbor mouth, where the light fades into the gray void. The wood's surface shows deep cracks and peeling layers, softened by the wetness. A final drop of water slides from a jagged edge of the hull into the mud below.
