Abandoned Court Canopy in Evening Honeyed Light in through an abandoned ceremonial court in Lebanon

Abandoned Court Canopy in Evening Honeyed Light

by Devon Schultz

Honeyed evening light spills across the weathered stone floor of a derelict ceremonial court in Lebanon, illuminating dust motes suspended in the dry air. A rusted metal canopy arches overhead, its corrugated sheets trembling violently in the whipping wind. Faded timetables are fused directly onto the rough limestone wall, their paper edges blistered and peeling away in jagged strips. The low angle emphasizes the crumbling columns that frame the structure, casting long, sharp shadows that stretch across the cracked pavement. Dry leaves skitter along the base of the wall, caught in the gusts. The metal surface of the canopy reflects the warm, fire-like glow of the setting sun, highlighting the texture of rust and corrosion against the pale, ancient stone. One loose panel hangs by a twisted hinge, swaying independently from the main frame.
