Roman Bathhouse Ruin in Spring Light

by Dominick Miranda

Sunlight fractures through overhead branches, casting shifting patches of gold and shadow across weathered stone blocks. Thick ivy drapes the crumbling masonry, its early spring leaves a vibrant green against the gray Roman brickwork. Dramatic clouds fill the sky above, their white undersides catching the bright midmorning sun. The ruins stand beside dense foliage, where moss clings to damp crevices in the ancient walls. A low archway frames a glimpse of the overgrown interior, revealing layers of fallen debris and exposed earth. The texture of the stone is rough and pitted, against the soft, climbing vines that weave through the gaps in the structure. One shard of blue ceramic rests on the ground near the base of a pillar.
