Dawn Glacier Calving into Fjord Near Iqaluit

Deep shadow swallows the foreground of a rain-slicked floodplain, where a massive wall of blue-white ice dominates the horizon. A jagged fragment of the glacier terminus breaks away, tumbling into the dark, glassy water of the fjord below. The sky hangs heavy with overcast clouds, diffusing the first light of dawn into a soft, gray glow. Thin rim light catches the sharp edges of the falling ice and the wet, dark stones scattered along the shore. The water ripples outward from the impact point, disturbing the stillness of the scene. A solitary patch of green tundra grass rests on the muddy bank in the lower left corner.
