Hokkaido Glacier Calving in Blue Twilight Mist in in Hokkaido

Hokkaido Glacier Calving in Blue Twilight Mist

by Clara Francis

Thick white mist swallows the lower slopes of a massive glacier tongue in Hokkaido, leaving only the jagged upper ridge visible against a deep indigo evening sky. The sun, held low by the midnight sun season, casts the ice wall into a stark black silhouette. Below, the dark fjord water reflects the faint violet glow of the fading light. A massive chunk of ice breaks from the face, creating a vertical fracture line that disappears into the fog. The sheer scale of the ice contrasts with the soft, rolling texture of the mist. At the waterline, a thin layer of sea foam rests on the dark, wet rock beneath the falling ice.
