Silhouetted Icebergs Calving Into Fjord Valley in high above irrigation geometry in the Caucasus

Silhouetted Icebergs Calving Into Fjord Valley

by Celeste Cummings

Golden evening light washes over the Caucasus highlands, turning the irrigation terraces into a geometric grid of earth and water. Below, deep valleys fill with thick ground fog that obscures the terrain, leaving only the tops of mountains visible as dark islands. Massive icebergs break away from a glacier, their jagged silhouettes stark against the bright sky as they slide into the dark fjord water. The dry season leaves the surrounding slopes bare and brown, against the white ice. Sharp shadows stretch across the terraced fields, showing the steep drop to the foggy depths. A thin layer of mist rests on the water's surface near the calving edge.
