Svalbard Glacier Calving Under Starry Polar Sky in beneath thin cloud gaps and stars in Russia

Svalbard Glacier Calving Under Starry Polar Sky

by Alison Jenkins

Icy blue slabs fracture and plunge from a towering glacier face into dark water beneath a canopy of scattered stars. Thin cloud gaps reveal the Milky Way stretching across the night sky while faint ground glow softens the horizon. A veil of mist hovers just above the churning surface, catching the starlight in pale gray wisps. The ice edge shows rough, jagged textures where massive chunks have recently broken away, leaving smooth, wet surfaces reflecting the celestial light. Shadows deepen in the crevasses while the foreground water ripples gently around floating ice shards. A sharp crack in the ice wall catches a glint of silver starlight near the waterline.
