Yukon Glacier Moraine Fog at Dawn in in Yukon

Yukon Glacier Moraine Fog at Dawn

by Macy Anderson

Cold silver dawn light washes over a jagged rock field where a glacier once carved the land. Low-hanging clouds drift just above the uneven surface of the moraine, their soft gray forms merging with the pale sky. The endless summer sun sits low on the horizon, casting long, diffuse shadows across the gray and brown stones. Debris from the ice forms rough ridges and mounds that break the wind. Patches of dark, wet ground appear between the rocks, reflecting the muted sky. The fog moves slowly, obscuring the base of the distant ice sheet while leaving the sharp peaks of the boulders exposed against the pale morning glow. A thin layer of moisture rests on the surface of the largest stone in the foreground.
