Crumbling Mughal Tomb in UAE Rainy Evening Fog
by Tina Zavala
Honeyed evening light bathes the weathered sandstone facade of a ruined Mughal tomb standing amidst the rain-dampened landscape of the United Arab Emirates. Carved floral motifs flake away from the porous stone, revealing rough underlayers where moisture has seeped deep into the masonry. A thin layer of fog softens the edges of the crumbling arches, blurring the transition between the foreground debris and the distant, shadowed archway. Raindrops rest on the darkened carvings, creating a glossy sheen that contrasts with the dry, dusty dust settling on the lower steps. The warm glow of the setting sun falls through the mist, illuminating the texture of the eroding surface and the deep crevices where vegetation has begun to take root. At the base of the wall, a single shard of carved stone rests in a puddle reflecting the fading amber sky.
