Mughal Tomb Ruin Under Austrian Stone Arch in beneath a broken stone arch in Austria

Mughal Tomb Ruin Under Austrian Stone Arch

by Helen Sosa

Golden light from the rising sun cuts through morning haze, illuminating a crumbling sandstone Mughal tomb situated beneath a weathered stone arch. Flaking carvings reveal layers of aged rock where intricate patterns once stood. Late autumn dampens the scene as a fine drizzle coats the surfaces, turning the sandstone a deeper, saturated ochre. Moss rests on the lower sections of the arch, against the dry, peeling texture of the tomb's upper facade. Water droplets bead on the rough edges of the stone, catching the low-angle glow. The entire structure rests on a bed of fallen brown leaves, at the base of the foreign architecture in the local, overcast soil.
