Monsoon Ruin Silhouette Against Sunset Sky
by Paul Zhang
Dark stone fragments of a castle ruin stand stark against a fading orange and purple sky. Low-hanging monsoon clouds press heavy and gray across the horizon, swallowing the last rays of daylight. In the foreground, an abandoned ceremonial court reveals cracked red brickwork overgrown with wet green moss. Tall grasses sway slightly in the damp air, their tips brushing against crumbling sandstone walls. The ground is slick with recent rain, reflecting the dimming light in dark puddles. Vines drape heavily from broken archways, their leaves glistening with moisture. A thick tree trunk rises from the center of the courtyard, its branches reaching up to frame the jagged silhouette of the tower above. at the edge is a single shard of blue pottery lying in a mud puddle near the base of the wall.
