Cayenne Pumping Station Fog at Dawn in beneath transmission towers in Cayenne

Cayenne Pumping Station Fog at Dawn

by Marcia Kramer

Cool mist rests on the concrete base of a pumping station chimney while intake screens stand submerged in shallow water. Transmission towers rise vertically against a clear, pale sky, their steel lattice fading into the distance. Converging lines of the channel and embankment draw toward a vanishing point obscured by the early morning haze. The cool season light casts soft, even shadows across the gray stone and rusted metal surfaces. Wet textures glisten on the intake grates where the water meets the machinery. One rust streak runs down the side of the nearest intake column, marking the boundary between the damp air and the dry concrete above.
