Oil Rig Before Dawn in Havana in under gantries and utility towers near Centro Habana, Havana

Oil Rig Before Dawn in Havana

by Gene Dillon

Steel gantries and utility towers loom over the wet pavement under a perfectly clear sky. A lighthouse beam sweeps across the scene, cutting through the still hours before dawn to illuminate the rusted textures of the industrial framework. Rough North Sea waves crash against the base of the structure, their white foam against the dark, damp ground. The low angle emphasizes the mechanical severity of the metal beams, which stretch upward into the shadowed sky. Water droplets rest on the grating, reflecting the sudden flash of light. A heavy chain hangs from a support beam, its links coated in a thin layer of sea spray.
