Canal Lock Chamber Dawn Mist Fukuoka

Pale dawn mist rests on the concrete walls of a canal lock chamber, softening the sharp edges of the industrial structure. Deep shadows engulf the lower half of the lock while a thin rim of light traces the top edges of the gates and the nearby keeper cabin. Several heavy mooring bollards stand in the foreground, their rusted metal surfaces reflecting the dim, cool light. Behind the lock, transformers and cables hang suspended above the floodwater along the levee path, their surfaces shimmering with a visible vibration in the cold air. Late autumn leaves, brown and brittle, scatter across the damp concrete and the edge of the water. A final sliver of blue sky breaks through the grey clouds above the cabin roofline.
