Buckled Bowling Lanes in Late Summer Fog in in Minnesota

Buckled Bowling Lanes in Late Summer Fog

by Oscar Rojas

Hard coastal glare cuts through thin late summer fog to illuminate a derelict bowling alley where water damage has warped the lanes into jagged, buckled ridges. Moss and wild grasses push through the cracked lane dividers, their green blades contrasting against the faded, peeling paint of the gutters. The wooden floorboards swell and twist upward, creating a chaotic landscape of broken wood and stagnant water pooling in the deepest depressions. A natural frame of overgrown branches and vines borders the view, framing the destruction within a thick curtain of vegetation. Sunlight reflects off the wet, uneven surfaces, highlighting the texture of rotting wood and the rough edges of the damaged lanes. at the edge is a single cracked pin cushion resting near the edge of a warped lane, its red and white stripes faded to gray.
