Bridge Pier Splitting Flood Brown Current

Hard late-afternoon sunlight strikes the rough concrete surface of a massive bridge pier cutwater, illuminating the stark geometry where water divides. The flood-brown current churns violently around the base, creating white foam that contrasts with the deep, muddy tones of the river. Above, thick suspension cables stretch taut against a clearing sky, their shadows falling sharply across the wet stone. The dry season leaves the surrounding banks exposed, revealing cracked earth and sparse vegetation. The structure stands with civic austerity, its vertical lines anchoring the chaotic motion of the water. A small patch of green algae rests on the lower edge of the pier where the waterline rests.
