Trinidad River Braiding Through Gravel Floodplain
by Atlas Pineda
Bright midmorning light from the Caribbean coast floods the frame, turning the wet gravel into a mosaic of sharp, reflective stones. The river splits into multiple braided channels that weave across the flat floodplain, their surfaces shimmering under the hard glare. A thin layer of light fog hovers just above the water, softening the distant tree line while the foreground remains crisp and detailed. The water moves slowly, carving clear paths through the pale gray and tan stones. Along the banks, low green vegetation rests on the damp earth, marking the edge of the wet season. The scene opens wide, showing the vast, empty expanse of the riverbed and the quiet, expansive calm of the landscape. A small ripple breaks the surface of the nearest channel, catching the sun and scattering it into a thousand tiny flashes.
