Aqueduct Arcade in Dry Summer Haze in along a dam spillway in Durg

Aqueduct Arcade in Dry Summer Haze

by Darren Schroeder

Brutalist concrete pillars rise vertically from the dusty earth, their surfaces rough and weathered by the dry season. Thick steel cables stretch taut between the arches, catching the harsh midday sun that bleaches the gray stone. A heavy overcast sky presses low, diffusing the light just enough to soften the shadows beneath the massive arcade. Water cascades down the spillway in the background, creating a white, churning ribbon against the dark, wet concrete. The perspective starts low near the ground, showing the towering scale of the infrastructure. Dust hangs in the air, blurring the distant arches into a high summer haze. One cable anchor bolted into the foundation rusts at the edge of a shadow.
