Lenticular Cloud Stack Over Geneva Thunderheads

by Haley Lamb

Pale grey light fills the early spring sky just before sunrise. A smooth, almond-shaped altocumulus lenticularis stack hovers motionless against the horizon. Below it, a massive wall of dark thunderheads rises in jagged layers, their tops illuminated by the soft, diffused dawn. Wind streaks through the air, pulling thin wisps of vapor across the cloud surfaces. The lenticular formation appears as a sharp, white silhouette against the brighter background sky. Darker storm clouds create a heavy, textured floor beneath the smooth lens. The horizon line separates the chaotic storm below from the serene lens above. A faint, cool blue tint washes over the lower cloud bases. The edge of the lens cloud catches the first hint of morning brightness.
