Ant Lion Pit in Golden Sand Near Cumaná

Fine, pale sand forms a precise conical pit on a flat stretch of beach beside a tidal inlet. The dry season leaves the grains loose and undisturbed except for the steep, crumbling walls of the trap. Golden hour light slants low across the surface, casting long, sharp shadows that deepen the funnel's interior. The sand texture ranges from smooth ripples on the rim to jagged, loose particles sliding down the slope. In the background, the wet shoreline reflects the clearing sky, where storm clouds break to reveal streaks of orange and blue. The pit sits isolated against the vast, flat expanse of the inlet bank, its geometric perfection against the organic chaos of the distant water. One grain of sand rests precariously on the edge of the rim, ready to tumble.
