Surreal Giant Spoon in Navi Mumbai Ruins in among collapsed cloisters near Navi Mumbai

Surreal Giant Spoon in Navi Mumbai Ruins

by Tracy Rutledge

Honeyed orange light floods a collapsed cloister near Navi Mumbai, illuminating a derelict lighthouse keeper room filled with sand and shards of shattered glass. A massive silver spoon, scaled to the size of a building, rests upright against a crumbling stone archway, its bowl catching the low-angle sun. Wet sand from the monsoon season piles high around the base of the structure, while broken glass fragments scatter across the floor like scattered jewels. The wind whips dust and sand across the stone surfaces, showing motion in the stillness. The spoon's polished metal contrasts sharply with the rough, weathered texture of the surrounding masonry, its handle extending high into the orange sky. One shard of glass reflects the bright light near the spoon's base.
