Waterspout Rising Over Turquoise Sea Near Haifa

by Norman Puckett

Bright midday sunlight floods a vast expanse of turquoise water where a slender waterspout spirals upward from the surface. The vortex connects the sea to a distant wall of stacked thunderheads hovering along the horizon. Sea haze softens the far edges of the sky, creating a pale veil against the deep blue clouds. The composition remains minimalist, isolating the thin column of spinning water and mist against the open sky. White foam churns at the base of the funnel where it touches the waves. A faint shadow of the column stretches across the water's surface, at the base of the phenomenon in the bright, dry season light.
