Winter Surf Tetrapods Tangier Amber Sunset

by Mila Peck

Rich amber sunlight floods the concrete expanse where massive black tetrapods stand locked in a defensive line against the sea. The honeyed evening light strikes the rough, pitted surfaces of the interlocking structures, highlighting their geometric sharpness against the churning water. White spray erupts violently as waves crash against the barriers, catching the low sun to create a temporary halo of mist that drifts upward. The ocean below is a dark, turbulent slate, against the glowing sky. From above, the pattern of the tetrapods creates a stark, industrial mosaic along the storm surge barrier, while wind whips the foam into long, streaking trails across the wet stone. One droplet of seawater rests on the edge of a concrete arm, refracting the golden light before falling back into the churning dark.
