Aerial surf lines strike black sand Rio Grande do Sul

White foamy lines curve sharply against the dark, volcanic sand where the Atlantic meets the coast. Heat shimmer distorts the horizon, blurring the boundary between the distant town glow and the early evening sky. Below, patterned rooftops in shades of terracotta and slate create a geometric mosaic that fades into the coastal scrub. The water pushes forward in rhythmic bands, leaving trails of froth that contrast with the deep charcoal of the beach. Shadows lengthen across the dunes, showing the vast topography of the shoreline. One white wave crest breaks just before reaching the wet sand.
