Winter Sunrise Over Roman Aqueduct Lhasa Levee in along a levee path above floodwater in Lhasa

Winter Sunrise Over Roman Aqueduct Lhasa Levee

by Ravi Sutton

First light strikes the stone arches of a massive Roman aqueduct spanning a deep green valley. The structure rises from a levee path above floodwater, its weathered masonry glowing in the pale orange rays of dawn. Winter bare trees line the valley floor, their branches stark against the cool blue shadows. Wind whips loose debris across the concrete walkway, blurring the edges of the scene. The massive pillars cast long, sharp shadows that stretch across the icy ground. One droplet of melted frost rests on the rough texture of the lowest keystone, catching the early sun.
