Twilight Roman Aqueduct Reflected Over Floodwater in along a levee path above floodwater near Eskişehir

Twilight Roman Aqueduct Reflected Over Floodwater

by Grant Beasley

Warm stone arches of a Roman aqueduct stretch across the frame, their weathered surfaces glowing with the fading light of sunset. Below, dark floodwater mirrors the structure, doubling the stone curves in a shimmering reflection. A narrow levee path runs alongside the water, bordered by dry autumn grasses and scattered brown leaves. Heat waves rise from sun-baked ground, distorting the air near the water's edge. The converging lines of the aqueduct pull toward a distant vanishing point where the stone fades into the twilight sky. Rough textures of ancient masonry contrast with the smooth, rippling surface of the flood below.
