Roman Aqueduct Spanning Green Valley Near Leh in across a windy overpass interchange near Leh

Roman Aqueduct Spanning Green Valley Near Leh

by Graham Wooten

Soft light after rain washes the arches of a massive Roman-style aqueduct as it stretches across a green valley. The structure rests above a complex interchange of concrete overpasses near Leh. Late spring foliage rests on the steep slopes below, displaying fresh emerald hues against the dry, dusty earth. Heat shimmer lifts from the sun-struck asphalt of the interchange, blurring the edges of the roadways. The sky holds a pale, washed-out blue where the clouds have recently parted. Arches cast sharp, geometric shadows onto the road surface below. One stone keystone glints with residual moisture at the apex of the nearest arch.
