Winter Geology Station Above Glacier Moraine in beside an observatory dome in Canada

Winter Geology Station Above Glacier Moraine

by Summer Brewer

Deep blue shadows engulf the geology field station perched on the edge of a Canadian glacier moraine. A bright rim of light traces the curved roofline of the adjacent observatory dome, separating the dark building from the falling snow. Flakes drift slowly through the air, accumulating in thick, undisturbed layers across the rocky moraine surface. The station's metal siding reflects the dim twilight, while frost rests on the edges of the windows. Heavy winter coats hang from a rack near the entrance door. The ground slopes steeply downward, revealing jagged ice formations beneath the snowpack. A faint glow from an interior lamp spills onto the snow near the threshold, illuminating the texture of the falling flakes.
