Glacial Moraine Wall Sunset Lapland Ridge in from a ridge above layered foothills in Lapland

Glacial Moraine Wall Sunset Lapland Ridge

by Victoria Davenport

A massive wall of jagged rocks and gravel rises abruptly against a pale lavender sky, marking the edge where a glacier once stood. The stones, varying from smooth grey boulders to sharp, angular fragments, catch the final horizontal rays of the midnight sun, creating long, soft shadows that stretch across the uneven surface. Below the ridge, layered foothills roll into the distance in muted greens and browns, their contours softened by the low angle of light. The ground at the base is scattered with loose scree, leading the eye upward to the stark, vertical face of the moraine. The air appears perfectly still under a cloudless expanse, showing the quiet, expansive scale of the Arctic landscape.
