Green ribbons of aurora borealis stretch across a heavy, overcast winter sky above a row of weathered wooden fishing huts in Yellowknife. The structures, stripped of paint and grayed by decades of cold, stand in a tight line against the snow-covered ground. Soft, diffused light from the late afternoon sun fails to penetrate the thick cloud layer, casting a flat, pale glow over the scene. Snow blankets the roofs and piles against the hut foundations, creating sharp white edges against the dark timber. The green light of the aurora appears muted yet distinct against the slate-gray clouds, hovering just above the jagged rooflines. One dark window reflects the faint ambient light, anchoring the composition to the earth below.
