Whirling Dervish Spinning in Cappadocia Dome in in a prayer hall in Cappadocia

Whirling Dervish Spinning in Cappadocia Dome

by Jake Floyd

Indigo ambient light saturates the cavernous prayer hall in Cappadocia as city lights begin to glow through high windows. A whirling dervish in white robes spins rapidly, the fabric flaring into a wide, translucent cone that blurs into a solid white disk. Rain streaks against the glass, distorting the view of the urban glow outside. Rough, textured stone walls of the cavernous interior absorb the low light, creating deep shadows that anchor the spinning figure. A dark wooden frame surrounds the opening, cutting a rectangular border around the motion. Dust motes hang suspended in the air, catching the faint illumination. The hem of the robe drags slightly on the stone floor, its white fabric contrasting sharply with the gray, damp ground.
