Cappadocian Cave House Atrium Blue Hour Reflections in inside a vaulted atrium near Göreme

Cappadocian Cave House Atrium Blue Hour Reflections

by Tara Dalton

Cool blue twilight fills the vaulted atrium of a cave house carved directly into a Cappadocian fairy chimney near Göreme. Rough, eroded volcanic stone walls curve upward, their beige and ochre surfaces damp and darkened by recent rain. Water pools on the uneven floor, creating a glassy mirror that reflects the arched ceiling and the soft, fading sky light. Simple wooden beams support the ceiling, their grain wet and heavy. One patch of moss clings to a crevice in the rock, bright green against the stone. The reflection of the vaulted arch splits perfectly down the center of the wet floor, doubling the architectural lines in the still water.
