Vine-choked Telephone Exchange at Twilight in Yorkshire in along a vine-choked corridor in Yorkshire

Vine-choked Telephone Exchange at Twilight in Yorkshire

by Misty Curtis

Thick monsoon mist rests on the crumbling brickwork of a former telephone exchange room, where iron wires snake through the open doorway like living vines. Reflected light from a nearby waterlogged surface casts a cool, silver wash across the damp floor, highlighting the peeling paint and rusted metal fixtures. Green tendrils of ivy and bramble choke the wooden doorframe, their leaves heavy with rain. The corridor stretches into a deep shadow, where hanging coils of copper wire drape over broken shelves. A puddle near the threshold mirrors the grey sky, distorting the silhouette of a solitary switchboard. at the edge is one drop of water falling from a frayed wire into the dark puddle below.
