Alaska Ghost Town Telephone Exchange Ruin in through an abandoned ceremonial court in Alaska

Alaska Ghost Town Telephone Exchange Ruin

by Gilbert Delacruz

Bright midmorning light floods the open space of an abandoned ceremonial court in Alaska, illuminating the skeletal remains of a telephone exchange room. Tangled copper and fiber wires drape across the frame like thick, leafless vines, hanging from rusted metal brackets and pooling on the damp, thawing earth below. Early spring conditions are evident in the patches of melting snow clinging to the shadows of the stone walls and the greenish-gray moss spreading across the wet ground. A brief sun shower glistens on the metallic surfaces, turning the corroded hardware into a mosaic of silver and rust-orange. The wires twist and loop through the natural stone archway, creating a dense, organic web that contrasts with the rigid geometry of the ruined structure. One tangle of wire rests on a puddle reflecting the pale, overcast sky.
