Transmission Towers Over Flooded Fields Dar es Salaam

by Kathy Jefferson

Midday sun cuts through clear dry mountain light, illuminating steel transmission towers striding across waterlogged fields. The ground below reflects the sky, a vast mirror of muddy floodwaters left by the monsoon. Thick cables sag heavily between the lattice structures, disappearing into a distant haze that softens the horizon. To the left, the rusted rungs of a water tower ladder rise vertically, at the base of the view in industrial utility. Fine spray and mist hang suspended above the concrete surfaces, catching the harsh light and creating a shimmering veil. The leading lines of the power grid draw the eye deep into the scene, showing the engineered force of the infrastructure against the soft, chaotic wetness of the landscape. One shadow falls sharply across the wet earth, marking the exact position of the steel lattice.
