Transmission Towers Marching Across Windy Ridge at Twilight
by Linda George
Cool blue twilight washes the high-altitude ridge near Leh, turning the sky into a deep, uniform slate. Three massive steel transmission towers march across the uneven terrain, their lattice structures stark against the fading light. The dead of winter leaves the ground bare and dusty, with no vegetation to soften the harsh angles of the infrastructure. Beside the foreground, a metal ladder climbs the side of a concrete water tower, its rungs reflecting the dim ambient glow. A fine spray of mist and water vapor hangs suspended above the concrete surface, catching the last light and creating a soft, ethereal haze that drifts between the towers. The scale of the steel frames dwarfs the water tower, showing the engineering required to bridge this exposed landscape. The final shadow of the nearest tower stretches long and sharp across the dusty ground.
