Transmission Towers Reflected in Wet Peat Pools Malaysia

by Astrid Savage

Hard late-afternoon sunlight strikes the grey concrete bases of massive transmission towers rising from the Malaysian moor. Dark, still pools of black peat water sit at the base of the structures, mirroring the steel lattice and cables with sharp, inverted precision. A thin layer of light fog hovers just above the wet ground, softening the horizon where the wet season greenery meets the sky. The concrete surfaces show rough textures and damp patches, against the glossy, oil-like sheen of the peat. Shadows fall steeply across the uneven earth, showing the civic-scale austerity of the infrastructure. A faint reflection of the upper cables ripples slightly in the edge of a puddle.
