Transmission Towers Over Frost Pasture at Twilight in beside a storm surge barrier in Beed

Transmission Towers Over Frost Pasture at Twilight

by Julie Robbins

Steel-gray transmission towers stand heavy against a steel-blue twilight sky above a frost-hardened pasture. Sagging power lines stretch between the pylons, dipping low before vanishing into a thick gray haze that softens the distant horizon. The ground beneath is a patchwork of dormant grass and wet soil, reflecting the dim ambient light from a recent sun shower. To the left, the concrete edge of a storm surge barrier anchors the view, its rough surface resting beside the smooth, drooping cables. Mist lies on the base of the towers, blurring the boundary between the earth and the sky. A rusted bolt on the nearest crossarm holds a small drop of water at its edge.
