Surreal Silk Mill Looms Floating in Mist

Thick mist rests on the ancient stone floor of an abandoned silk mill near Lalibela, where cool season air hangs heavy. Wooden looms, stripped of thread, rest on the ground in rows of weathered beams. Dust motes swirl in the bright late-afternoon light that pierces the fog. In a violation of gravity, several large loom shuttles and spools of faded silk float suspended in midair above the dusty floor, defying the earth beneath them. Ivy creeps up the crumbling stone walls, its green leaves against the gray stone. The leading lines of the broken machinery draw toward the floating objects, which cast soft, distinct shadows on the ground below despite their impossible position. One wooden beam rests precariously on the edge of a floating spool.
