A row of large metal basins holds hot water where silk cocoons unwind, their threads rising into the air. The industrial setting features heavy welding equipment in the background, against the delicate silk process. Water droplets rest on the rim of a basin, reflecting the gray morning sky. Steam rises slowly from the hot water, blending with the dust motes. The low angle emphasizes the scale of the machinery and the mechanical severity of the space. Rust streaks run down the metal sides of the vats, showing years of use.
