Glowing Gas Pump in Utah Desert Ruin in through an abandoned ceremonial court in Utah

Glowing Gas Pump in Utah Desert Ruin

by Allison Sutton

Sandblasted concrete islands rise from cracked earth under a relentless noon sky. Rust eats through the metal skin of two vintage gas pumps standing in a ceremonial court. Dry sagebrush whips violently in the wind, blurring the edges of the frame. One pump holds a secret: its glass globe emits a soft, impossible violet light from within. This internal glow casts sharp, colored shadows across the peeling paint and the dusty ground. The other pump remains dark and cold, its chrome dull under the harsh sun. Dust motes swirl in the light beam, caught in a suspended moment of decay. The glow stops abruptly at the pump's base, leaving the surrounding stones in deep shadow.
