Braided Glacial River on Museum Plinth Makurdi

by Ian Hudson

Suspended silt and water twist into intricate braided channels atop a polished museum plinth in Makurdi. Warm candlelight spills across the miniature landscape, casting deep amber shadows that pool in the carved grooves of the fake riverbed. A second sun hangs low in the background, its duplicate glow striking the wet sediment with a secondary, sharper highlight that contradicts the single source above. The monsoon atmosphere thickens the air, visible as a hazy sheen over the gray mud and swirling currents. Fine grains of glacial silt rest on the edges of the plinth, catching the dual light in a spectrum of gold and charcoal. The impossible second sun reflects in the shallow water, creating a perfect, mirrored duplicate that anchors the surreal geography.
