Strangler Fig Engulfing Host Tree Tasmania Midsummer

by Silas Pace

Thick aerial roots cascade down from the canopy, wrapping tightly around the rough, grey bark of the host tree. The strangler fig creates a textured lattice of brown and green vines against the weathered trunk. Overcast skies diffuse the midsummer light, eliminating harsh shadows and highlighting the moisture on the broad leaves. Ferns and moss rest on the lower branches, adding soft patches of vibrant green to the dark wood. The composition places the intertwining trunks along the left vertical third, leaving the right side open to the misty forest background. One root tip rests against a fallen log, anchoring the vertical mass to the forest floor.
