Mangrove Roots and Ferns in Philippine Forest in on a fern-lined forest floor in Philippines

Mangrove Roots and Ferns in Philippine Forest

by Conner Gordon

Hard midday sunlight strikes a dense cluster of mangrove prop roots rising from a dark, fern-lined forest floor. The roots display a rough, fibrous texture in shades of charcoal and rust, their gnarled forms creating deep, jagged shadows against the pale green fronds of the surrounding ferns. Bright highlights catch the wet surfaces of the wood, contrasting sharply with the cool, muted tones of the forest undergrowth. Warm coastal air hangs heavy, visible in the way light seems to shimmer just above the damp earth. One fern frond lies curled against the base of the thickest root, its tip casting a thin, dark line on the soil.
