Surreal Staircase Amidst Succulents and Ferns

Late autumn light falls through a heavy, gray overcast sky, casting a diffuse glow over a fern-lined forest floor near Adelaide. Rows of terracotta pots containing spiky succulents sit in neat formation on the damp earth. From a central landing nestled among the pots, a staircase splits into two directions simultaneously: one flight ascends into the gray clouds, while the other descends into the leaf litter below. The impossible geometry creates a sharp visual anchor against the organic textures of moss and clay. Sunlight breaks through the clouds in isolated beams, illuminating the dust motes and the rough surface of the terracotta. The ferns curve gently around the base of the stairs, their fronds catching the cool, dry mountain air without moving.
