Upward Rain Over Snapdragons in Tasmanian Forest in on a fern-lined forest floor in Tasmania

Upward Rain Over Snapdragons in Tasmanian Forest

by Gary Montgomery

Midsummer mist pools in deep hollows of a fern-lined forest floor, cradling a single row of snapdragons in deep shadow. Cool pre-dawn light carves a sharp silver rim along the petals and leaves, separating them from the surrounding gloom. Against this natural stillness, crisp silver streaks of rain fall upward from the soil, piercing the air in perfect vertical lines. The mossy ground absorbs the light, while the fern fronds stand rigid and dark beside the colorful blooms. Each upward droplet catches the faint glow, creating a stark contrast against the heavy, damp atmosphere of the Tasmanian undergrowth. The silver streaks terminate abruptly at the base of the nearest flower stem.
