Silvery Winter Night in Chilean Mountain Meadow
by Erica Ward
Silvery winter light floods a high-altitude meadow in Chile, illuminating wildflowers that stand stark against the darkening treeline. The ground spreads out in a wide panoramic expanse, covered in dry grasses and clusters of purple and white blooms that glow with a cool, metallic sheen. Above, a perfectly clear sky stretches endlessly, devoid of clouds, revealing a dense tapestry of stars that mirror the stillness below. The rugged contours of the surrounding peaks rise in the distance, their slopes etched in deep shadow, showing the geologic grandeur of the Andes. Shadows stretch long and sharp across the terrain, defining the texture of the earth and the fragile stems of the flowers that dot the landscape. One cluster of blue flowers rests on a pebble near the foreground edge.
