Lichen Covered Boulder in Night Meadow

Silvery winter light washes over a rugged boulder resting in a Colorado meadow. The rock surface hosts a dense cluster of lichen, its crusty textures glowing faintly against the dark stone. Low-hanging clouds obscure the sky, diffusing the light into a flat, intense gray. Surrounding the boulder, dormant grasses and late spring wildflowers stand still, their muted greens and purples blending into the twilight. A thin shadow stretches from the rock's edge, cutting across the pale soil. The lichen patches show rough, flaky ridges where the light strikes directly, while deeper crevices remain in shadow. Frost dusts the tips of nearby grass blades.
